Leaking right now
My roof is leaking. What do I do?
Tonight: catch the water, move what you can, and if the ceiling is bulging, poke a small hole at the low point so it drains into a bucket instead of coming down. Take dated photos. Tomorrow: get the source found. Most leaks come from a part, a nail, a pipe jack, a vent, a flashing, not the whole roof.
My roof is leaking right now. What do I do tonight?
Put a bucket or towels under it. Move furniture and electronics. If the ceiling is sagging with water, a small hole at the lowest point lets it drain in a controlled way. Keep away from wet light fixtures and turn off that circuit. Take photos with the date.
My roof only leaks when it rains really hard. Why?
Hard, wind-driven rain gets pushed sideways into places normal rain doesn't reach: wall flashings, nails backing out at the flashings, the base of a pipe jack.
My roof started leaking after the storm. Is that storm damage, or was it already going?
It can be either, and the photos tell the difference. Hail and wind leave specific marks. Age shows up as failed parts. A documented inspection separates the two before you decide on a claim.
What usually causes a roof leak here?
The three things that fail on a Texas roof: nails backing out of flashings, cracked pipe jacks, and cracked plastic vents. Plus flashing where the roof meets a wall or chimney.

How much does it cost to fix a roof leak around here?
It depends on the part. An extra pipe jack or vent on one of our visits is $150; a dryer jack is $225. Anything else is priced after we find the source, in writing, with a photo.
Questions homeowners ask
Who do I call first for a roof leak, my insurance or a roofer?
If it's leaking now, stop the water first. Then get the source found and documented so you know whether it's a failed part or storm damage. Check your policy for its reporting deadline and never delay notifying your carrier. Whether to file is your call.
Will my homeowners insurance cover a roof leak in Texas?
Your policy decides that, not your roofer. Sudden storm damage and wear are treated differently in most policies. What we can do is document which one you have, with dated photos.
My roof is leaking and I don't have the budget for a new roof right now. What are my options?
Most leaks are a part, not the whole roof. Find the source, fix it once, then decide what matters most first. We lay out the options from the smallest fix up, each with a price.
